Edgar Endrukaitis holds a degree in economics (University of Heidelberg) and began his professional career as a trainee in business. From 1987, he worked for the German Environmental and Nature Conservation Association (BUND) for over ten years – as a scientific advisor for economics and finance, campaigner for issues such as “ecological tax reform” and “sustainable Germany,” and in a management role. He then worked for the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) for over 20 years, with posts in China (head of the German-Chinese environmental policy program), India (head of the biodiversity program), and Berlin. There, he led international projects on behalf of the BMU, including environmental policy dialogues with China, Brazil, and India, the “Business and Biodiversity Initiative” with international companies, and most recently the international support project for the “Implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement.” He has been retired since 2022 and is active in a voluntary capacity in the Baltic region, among other places, in the field of climate change.
