Prof. Dr. Achim Truger is a Professor of Socioeconomics with a focus on State Activity and Public Finance at the University of Duisburg-Essen and a member of the German Council of Economic Experts. He studied economics at the University of Cologne, where he received his doctorate in 1997 with a dissertation on “New Public Finance.” He subsequently headed the Department of Tax and Fiscal Policy at the Hans Böckler Foundation—initially in the Institute of Economic and Social Research (WSI) and later in the Macroeconomic Policy Institute (IMK). From 2012 to 2019, he was Professor of Economics at the Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR) and served as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics from 2015 to 2017. In addition, he was a Senior Research Fellow at the IMK from 2014 to 2020. Achim Truger conducts research and publishes on macroeconomic policy and public finance and acts as a scientific policy advisor for governments, parliaments, trade unions, and NGOs at the international, national, and municipal levels.
